Lecture
This week we use AI tools to design websites, apps and software interfaces. We start inside Figma. Make turns a prompt into a working app, the agent edits your frames and components on the canvas, and Weave makes images and video to put inside a design. After the break we look at Claude Design, ChatGPT, Paper and Wonder. For each tool we ask four things. Can you edit what it made? Does it actually run? Does it follow your system? Where can the work go next?
In Class Assignment
You’ll pick a website, an app or a piece of software you would actually use. You’ll map its three to five screens and the flow between them before any tool draws anything. Then you’ll build it in Figma and again in a second tool, and compare the two side by side. A few students will show both versions to the room at the end.
Homework
Finish one version as a clickable prototype, in the tool that worked better for you. Bring it into your own type, color and components instead of the tool’s default look. Then annotate it to show what the AI made and what you changed by hand. As you work, notice where the tool made a design decision for you that you would not have made.
What you hand in
- A link to your clickable prototype, with screenshots of your annotated screens
- Your prompts, word for word, with the tools and models you used
- A reflection, 150 to 300 words, in your own voice
Due at the start of class on Monday, November 16. Bring the prototype with you, because Week 10 picks it up.
